Medjugorje & the Adriatic Coast: A Pilgrimage of Faith Through Croatia & Bosnia

You've heard of Medjugorje... Now prepare yourself for a pilgrimage into one of the most visited and spiritually significant destinations in the modern Catholic world. Since 1981, this small village in Bosnia-Herzegovina has drawn millions of pilgrims following reported Marian apparitions, and this journey brings you into the heart of it alongside Father Daniel Brandenburg, Luly Fernandez, and Captain Joe & Domenica Sacchetti. Beginning in Dubrovnik's medieval walled Old Town, the pilgrimage crosses into Bosnia-Herzegovina through historic Mostar before settling into Medjugorje's sacred daily rhythm — the Rosary, Holy Mass, and Eucharistic Adoration — with visits to Apparition Hill, Cross Mountain, and the Community of Cenacolo along the way. The journey culminates on June 25th, the Anniversary itself, a day of grace when pilgrims believe Mary is present in a special way, before closing in Split among ancient Roman ruins and ancient Christian heritage. This is a pilgrimage for those seeking more than sightseeing — it's a journey of faith, history, and grace along the Adriatic coast. Just say yes.

Highlights

  • Arrive in Dubrovnik, Croatia's "Pearl of the Adriatic," and settle into the elegant Rixos Hotel overlooking the sea, welcomed with an authentic Dalmatian happy-hour and an evening stroll through the historic Old Town.

  • Tour Dubrovnik's famous medieval city walls and celebrate Mass at the Baroque Dubrovnik Cathedral, home to the relics of St. Blaise and renowned sacred artwork by Titian.

  • Cross the Croatian border by coach with a cultural coffee stop in historic Mostar, then meet spiritual guide Tea and begin the sacred Medjugorje "Program" — the Rosary, Holy Mass, and Eucharistic Adoration.

Who’s Your Host?

Captain Joe Sacchetti is a U.S. Army Ranger-qualified paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and author of Guts, Smarts & Love, who served 2 tours in Iraq and was awarded the Bronze Star for actions in combat.

A Track & Field All-American and Welterweight Boxing Champ in the 82nd Airborne, Joe escorted the Olympic torch through his Pennsylvania hometown in 1980 on the way to Lake Placid as a kid, and from that moment knew he wanted to see the world!

  • After MIT’s Business Exec Ed program, Joe started Highroads Traveler to make sophisticated global travel easily accessible to small groups of 20 by “hosting” them, now via Legacy Collectibles.

  • It’s rare to mesh the world of combat vet and sophisticated traveler, yet Joe is on a journey to be the world’s first Army Ranger to visit every country on the globe. 160 out of 227 so far, and it’s much more than stamping a passport.

  • Connecting with people around the globe in their language makes every trip more fun. From European roots, Joe is comfortable in half a dozen or so, and always learning more.

  • Playing music is another fantastic people connector so he & his wife Domenica always keep an eye out for a piano to gather round at happy hour. It doesn’t take much nudging from her to get Joe to play either!

After checking in, enjoy an authentic Dalmatian happy-hour welcome, sampling local flavors and getting acquainted with fellow pilgrims before the journey truly begins.

Day 2

Dubrovnik- Spend the day discovering Dubrovnik in full. Walk atop the city's famous medieval walls, taking in panoramic views of terracotta rooftops and the sparkling Adriatic below — one of the most iconic vistas in all of Europe.

Afterward, celebrate Mass at the elegant Baroque Dubrovnik Cathedral, home to the sacred relics of St. Blaise, the city's patron saint, and renowned artwork by the great Venetian master Titian.

With the afternoon open, explore the shops and seaside promenades of the Old Town at your own pace. Before the day ends, receive your pilgrimage journal — a keepsake to record thoughts, prayers, and reflections as the spiritual heart of the trip begins to unfold.

Day 3

Medjugorje - Board the coach and journey across the Croatian border into Bosnia-Herzegovina, pausing along the way in historic Mostar for a cultural coffee stop and a glimpse of its famous Ottoman-era bridge.

From there, continue on to Medjugorje, the small village that has become one of the most visited pilgrimage sites on Earth since 1981.

This evening, meet spiritual guide Tea over dinner and begin the blessed Medjugorje "Program" — a rhythm of the Rosary, Holy Mass, and Eucharistic Adoration that will anchor each day you spend here. It's a gentle, prayerful introduction to a place many believe is touched by the divine.

Day 4

Medjugorje - Climb Apparition Hill, the spiritual heart of Medjugorje and the site of the first reported Marian apparitions in 1981. Walking the rocky path many pilgrims climb barefoot in devotion, you'll feel the weight and wonder of a place that has drawn millions in search of grace.

Visit Vicka's House, home to one of the original visionaries, and spend time at the Community of Cenacolo, where former addicts rebuild their lives through faith, prayer, and honest work — a powerful, humbling testament to the transformative power of belief.

The day closes with an authentic Herzegovinian dinner, rich with regional flavor and warm hospitality.

Day 5

cross mountain medjugorje - Prayerfully ascend Cross Mountain (Križevac), crowned by its towering concrete cross erected in 1934 to commemorate 1,900 years since Christ's crucifixion.

The steep climb is as much a spiritual exercise as a physical one, offering sweeping views and quiet moments of reflection at the summit.

Spend the afternoon at leisure — wandering the village, sitting in prayer, or simply absorbing the peaceful rhythm of life in Medjugorje

Day 6

Medjugorje - Set off on a blessed excursion to the nearby Shrine of St. Anthony, a peaceful site of prayer just outside the village, followed by a visit to the historic Franciscan Monastery, long a center of spiritual life in this region. Break for a hearty local Herzegovinian lunch, savoring the same rustic, home-style cooking that has fed pilgrims here for generations.

As evening approaches, head to the family-owned Carska Vina Winery for a truly spectacular experience — regional wines poured generously, new friendships formed over shared tables, and a traditional dinner feast that stretches on for hours.

Day 7

Medjugorje - Today is the Anniversary — June 25th and Mary is believed to be present. This is a day set apart entirely for grace: personal prayer, confession, and Eucharistic Adoration fill the hours, alongside time to shop for religious gifts or simply sit quietly with your thoughts.

Make a final visit to the Blue Cross, or revisit whichever spot in Medjugorje has meant the most to you this week. On its blessed 46th anniversary, Medjugorje remains one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations in the world and today, you're part of that living story.
