Who’s Your Host?

Captain Joe Sacchetti is a U.S. Army Ranger- qualified paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne and author of Guts, Smarts & Love, who served 2 tours in Iraq and was awarded the Bronze Star for actions in combat.

A Track & Field All-American and Welterweight Boxing Champ in the 82nd Airborne, Joe escort- ed the Olympic torch through his Pennsylvania hometown in 1980 on the way to Lake Placid as a kid, and from that moment knew he wanted to see the world!

Marble Surface
  • After MIT’s Business Exec Ed program, Joe started Highroads Traveler to make sophisticated global travel easily accessible to small groups of 20 by “hosting’ them, now via Legacy Collectibles.

  • It’s rare to mesh the world of combat vet and sophisticated traveler, yet Joe is on a journey to be the world’s first Army Ranger to visit every country on the globe. 160 out of 227 so far, and it’s much more than stamping a passport.

  • Connecting with people around the globe in their language makes every trip more fun. From Euro- pean roots, Joe is comfortable in half a dozen or so, and always learning more.

  • Playing music is another fantastic people connector so he & his wife Domenica always keep an eye out for a piano to gather round at happy hour. It doesn’t take much nudging from her to get him to play either!

Day 2

London— After channeling your inner Victorian with an early invigorating walk through Hyde Park, enjoy your very first full English breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

We’ll take a 10 minute shuttle to begin the day with an insider’s tour of Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, where we’ll see inside the Abbey where every monarch since 1066 AD has been crowned. Then we’ll hop aboard the Westminster stop of the Thames Ferry to Bankside for a peek at where Elizabethan Londoners used to go for fun and stroll the River Walk to lunch at The Swan at Shakespeare’s Globe.

After lunch we’ll cross the Thames on foot by London’s only pedestrian/bike bridge, the steel Millenium Bridge, on our way past the historic London Bridge and onto the must-see Tower of London, home to the Crown Jewels and many infamous castle prisoners.

Back to the hotel to freshen up and rest before dinner. Tonight we dine in a London-insiders’ neighborhood called Shepherd Market that’s still a secret to travelers.

Day 3

London- Save room for a bit of culture or shopping—your preference— as we board black cabs for your choice of the British Museum or Charles Dickens Museum or upscale Oxford Street for sightseeing and shopping.

Enjoy a few hours in the morning then we’ll meet back for a grand lunch at London’s most iconic theatre district restaurant, The Ivy, known for its great food and celebrities. Try the tastiest Shepherd’s Pie on the west end, known to be Laurence Olivier’s favorite.

After lunch we’ll stroll through historic Covent Garden for a little history and bit more sightseeing & shopping before making a mini Old Fashioned Pub crawl to enjoy a pint of ale or local cider (or glass of wine, ladies) with a local London personality in 2 of London’s most colorful Covent Garden pubs.

Enter town like a character in a classic movie. The old fashioned train steams daily from St Erth to St Ives and right up to the Harbour Hotel overlooking the beach below. Up the steps we go to settle in and meet at the Harbour Bar for a Happy Hour surprise and dinner overlooking the water.

Day 6

Cornwall— Enjoy an early stroll on the beach, workout at the spa or come straight down to enjoy breakfast through the sunshine streaming through the terrace windows.

We’re off through Cornish hedgerow countryside to Lands End, the farthest point west in all of UK. It’s an iconic bucket list item and lovely sunny place to enjoy the rugged cliffs and whitecapped water below, and a few shops to commemorate the accomplishment. We’ll grab tea and a snack & walk to the edge to capture your picture at the very spot of Land’s End and mail the keepsake home!

We’ll stop by the 4000 year old neolithic Merry Maidens stone circle enroute to enjoy an early Cornish dinner at The Kings Arms Pub.

Then off we go to the world famous Minack Theatre, carved in the cliffs to form a breathtaking amphitheatre at sunset that gazes onto the stage and out to sea for very lively performances.

Depending on the time of year, we’ll catch a live show - anything from Drunk Shakespeare to Brit comedy. You’ll love it.

Day 7

Cornwall— Wake up leisurely to the sound of the Portminster Beach waves or go get some exercise on the trail before breakfast. By now you’ll be feeling like a Cornish local.

After an easy morning, we’ll take a 25 minute drive to visit the breathtaking St Michael’s Mount, a tiny historic tidal island that’s home to both a castle and gardens connected by a cobblestone causeway that you can cross at low tide. Depending on tides, we’ll either walk across or hop the boat at the Marazion dock, and step back in time for a memorable visit.

What’s more British than afternoon tea and sandwiches? After touring the castle and garden we’ll join award-winning Chef Greg Milne for an experience that critics dub the best afternoon tea in the UK.

Back on the mainland, you’ll have a chance to visit historic Penzance, the next town over, for an afternoon stroll in this upbeat vacation town.

Then it’s back to beautiful St Ives to unwind and enjoy the sunset. Change into some comfy clothes and we’ll meet for casual dinner fun on the wharf starting with a cider at the 14th century Sloop Inn and outdoor eats a few doors down at Cintra Seafood Bar.

or

Travel back in time to land of Castles and Roman baths as we take a leisurely luxury ride to Bath, England - the most well preserved Roman town in Northern Europe. Along the way, we’ll say goodbye to Cornwall and stop for lunch in the last Cornish town, historic Exeter, on the River Exe.

Day 10

Bath— Wake up with a leisurely stroll or workout, and full English breakfast in royal fashion.

The UNESCO town of Bath is named precisely as you guessed—because of the Roman thermal spas erected there 2000 years ago. We’ll get to know this fabulous strolling town with a walking tour winding us along the River Avon to Bath Abbey, the Royal Crescent and the Roman & Georgian streets, densely packed with shops and cafes.

We’ll stop for a fitting lunch in Bath with our host Antonio at the best Italian restaurant in the west of England, Sotto Sotto.

Bring your swim suit to experience the spectacle of the thermal spa—from the warmth of the water! The Romans respected the peaceful power of the hot baths, and we can learn a thing or 2 from them.

After a great afternoon soak, finish off a great day with shopping and dinner on your own.

Day 11

Bath— Today we’ll explore the enclave of storybook villages known as The Cotswolds. An easy drive from Bath, we’ll visit several of the mystical honey-hued stone villages with quaint churches and thatched rooftops that you may recognize from Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, and delight among the many artisan shops, abbeys, and eateries. And if you’re seeking a quintessentially British keepsake, you’ll find it here.

We’ll make stops at Lacock Abbey, Bibury, and Stow-on-the-Wold on our tour with enough free time to shop and enjoy lunch on your own. Then on to Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the Venice of the Cotswolds for a full day that is sure to fill your photo album with memorable shots.

My favorite way to end the trip of a lifetime is to crush it with a Michelin Plate & Bib Gourmand rated restaurant.

Will this night in Bath cap off the best tour ever? After the rustically amazing 5-course dinner at Henrys from Chef Henry Scott, you decide!

Afterwards, amble back to the Gainsborough or maybe linger with me for a nightcap and Churchill cigar amidst the fine British folks.
